Welcome to project geo-dome.
An experiment in low cost efficient construction and sustainable living.
In 2001 I decided to design and build a super efficient building as my workshop/office and hopefully my home. Read my project diary to discover how I did it and the problems I had on the way.
The main purpose of geo-dome is to educate and promote the design, construction and use of dome structures and efficient building design for the environmentally conscious self builder. We live in a time when everyone should be concerned about the impact they make on the environment, to this end I believe that dome structures are one of the best ways to achieve a more sustainable future,save money and take a giant step into the 21st century,

Uses.
Just about any type of building is cheaper and more efficient when its dome shaped. A simple garden shed or low cost housing through to very large structures like warehousing or even aircraft hangers the potential save money and benefit the environment is huge. On average a dome uses 30% less material to cover the same floor area as a conventional tract building, imagine the savings if most new buildings were domes.
